Business and council leaders pledge support for new office space in Chester

Council leaders, businesses and city organisations gathered to pledge their support for a new high quality office development adjacent to Chester railway station.

Work is now well underway on the first 70,000 sq ft, six-storey building by Muse Developments which will form a vital part of Chester’s new ‘Central Business Quarter’. There are already active enquiries for space at the speculative development, which is due for completion in November 2015.

Cheshire West and Chester Council’s deputy leader and executive member for resources, Cllr Eveleigh Moore Dutton was joined by council chief executive Steve Robinson to welcome a number of dignitaries on a site tour of the new development. Representatives from Chester Renaissance, the Grosvenor Estate, West Cheshire and North Wales Chamber of Commerce, the University of Chester, city law firms and other businesses also viewed the first ‘fly-through’ video animation of the building and the development, which can be viewed here.

Commercial property agents from across the North West also visited the scheme  for the official launch. Former jockey and Grand National winner Richard Dunwoody welcomed property agents to the event with a lively talk on his career as both a jockey and polar explorer.

Cllr Moore-Dutton said: “City Place is hugely welcome in the city and of great strategic importance to Chester and the wider region. The council is fully supportive of the scheme, which will not only offer important new office space for businesses already in the area but also provide dynamic new space for new businesses from further afield in the UK and internationally. It is fantastic to see tremendous support from business leaders and other organisations for the scheme – we can achieve so much more together than we can on our own.”

Phil Mayall, development director for Muse Developments, said: “We’re delighted by the immense support we have received from Cheshire West and Chester Council and from other representatives across the city for our scheme. We feel confident that One City Place will deliver an exciting and innovative new business address for Chester, which will have a positive impact on the city’s economy.”

One City Place marks the first of seven buildings. When complete Chester’s Central Business Quarter will offer a total of 440,000 square feet of state-of-the art office space creating around 3,500 jobs.
